Kulkea Founder, David Abramowitz, Reveals the True Story Behind the Brand's First Kids' Boot Bag

How His Own Children Played a Key Role in The Speed Star's Success
Following the launch of Kulkea's original product, the Boot Trekker, came numerous other boot bags, all with their very own bells and whistles. But, Kulkea's founder, David Abramowitz, knew there was a crucial demographic that he had not yet tapped into. “I have three children and I had been taking them to ski on a regular basis,” David shared, but he knew the adult-sized boot bags were simply no match for the young, eager skiers.
So, David dove right back into the research and development process, and the more he explored, the more he realized this age group didn't quite have access to quality products that were catered specifically to them. “Everyone that I was talking to was like, ‘Oh, just give your kids a bag, throw it in there and they’ll carry it themselves,’” David recalled. “But it doesn’t work that way. If the bag is too big, the kid’s not going to carry it, you’re going to be carrying it. And if the bag is too tricky for a child to open, or to find things in, they’re not going to do it, it’s going to be all you” - ultimately causing a more strenuous experience for parents.

Luckily, as an avid skier and father, David had an advantage that set him apart from the competition when it came to the design element. “My knowing what I needed as a parent, what they needed as a child, what would work for them, and what wouldn’t work for them, was invaluable.” Providing not only his own children, but young skiers across the globe with a boot bag they could maneuver and carry entirely on their own would not only instill a great sense of independence, but take a heavy load off the parents, who'd likely been taking far too many trips to the car.
The Speed Star - A Dream Boot Bag for the Small Yet Speedy Shredders

And come 2015, a colorful, lightweight, and supportive boot bag, named the Speed Star, hit the market, which was created especially for the mightiest minis on the slope. Every detail was meticulously designed with the tendencies of these younger snow stars in mind, from the Open Pack Design™, allowing for maximum visibility to make packing simpler than ever, to the bottom corner bumpers that act as extra reinforcements, so even when traveling at lightning speed to the lift, ski and snowboard boots will be protected at all times.
